Experience the finest moments of yoga practice – measured breathing and strength – combined with the essence of yoga – selfless service, pure intention and acceptance. Join us on a unique, uplifting and moving yoga experience to summit Africa’s highest peak for the benefit of African children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Each climber commits to paying their own travel expenses and raising pledges that directly support the initiatives of Global Alliance and its African partners.
Our 15 day journey to Africa’s eastern edge will begin on September 26, 2008 in Tanzania, where we will get an intimate view of our pledge money at work and the orphans our efforts are supporting. We will then travel to the base of Kilimanjaro for our 7 day hike. From there we will venture off the coast of Africa to the island of Zanzibar where we will bask in the islands glory for three days. The final leg of our journey will find us on safari for two days in the Serengeti.
Each day you will have the option to participate in yoga practice led by Courtney Riley and Karen Conter. The level of practice will be dictated, both literally and metaphorically, by where we are in our journey and will range from simple breath work and stretching to a full practice.
Total travel expenses are expected to be approximately $5,700 – $6,000. Pledge minimum is $5,000. Summiting Kilimanjaro is a hike so no technical climbing expertise is necessary. Still the hike is long and challenging and should be undertaken only by people in good health.
Please join us for an informational meeting on February 26th at 7:00 p.m. at Karen’s home, 1038 Greenwood in Wilmette. Tom Derdak, the founder of Global Alliance will join us to introduce Global Alliance and answer any questions you might have.
Please RSVP to Karen or Courtney at the emails listed below.
